BLACK FRIEZA WAITS

Three Years Later, Frieza Still Owns the Room

IIt has been more than three years since Black Frieza walked onto Planet Cereal, casually deleted Gas, and knocked out both Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta like they were late for a meeting. And Dragon Ball still has not given us the rematch.

That is either brilliant long-game storytelling or the cruelest cliffhanger in modern shonen. Knowing Dragon Ball, it is both.

The Form That Broke the Hierarchy

Black Frieza was not some rushed “new color, new power” gimmick. Frieza found a Hyperbolic Time Chamber on a conquered planet and trained for ten years’ worth of time, then returned with a form he claims took “plenty of toil.”
“I couldn’t very well keep losing to you Saiyans my whole life, so I needed a bit of a power-up. Meet Black Frieza. Achieving this form took plenty of toil, I’ll have you know.”
— Frieza, “The Universe’s Strongest Appears”.

The receipts are nasty. He killed Awakened Gas with one Ruthless Blow, then revealed the form to True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta before knocking both of them out with one strike each.

V-Jump described his power as close to a God of Destruction and stated that its full extent cannot be measured. That is not “Frieza got stronger.” That is “the universe’s old landlord came back with a black card and a grudge.”

Why the Design Works

Toyotarou explained that black was chosen because it is the only color that could stand above gold, jokingly comparing it to a black credit card outranking a gold one. Petty? Absolutely. Effective? Unfortunately, yes.
Some fans still argue it is just another palette swap, and they have a point—Dragon Ball’s transformation design language has leaned hard into recolors. But Black Frieza works because the flex is not the paint job; it is the context. Frieza trained. Quietly. For ten years. Then arrived after everyone else had already exhausted themselves.
That is not a Saiyan-style power-up. That is corporate villainy with a gym membership.

The Saga Everyone Is Waiting For

CBR’s argument is that the Black Frieza Saga could become one of Dragon Ball’s greatest arcs precisely because the Z-Fighters are finally balanced. Goku has mastered Ultra Instinct, Vegeta has Ultra Ego, Gohan has Beast, Piccolo has Orange Piccolo, and Broly is finally training alongside them.
For once, this is not “Goku and whoever is standing nearby.” It is a full roster of top-tier fighters, each with their own identity and transformation. The problem? Black Frieza is still stronger than all of them individually, and possibly stronger than the entire squad working together.
If Toyotarou handles it carelessly, Goku will steal the spotlight again and turn everyone else into background characters with cool hair. If he handles it well, this could be the arc that finally makes the whole team matter.

Broly Is the Secret Weapon

Here is the spicy part: CBR believes Broly may be the real key to the Black Frieza Saga—not as another friendly Saiyan punching bag, but as the potential tragic villain Dragon Ball has never truly done.
Frieza murdered Paragus, set Broly’s entire tragedy in motion, and made it clear by the end of Dragon Ball Super: Broly that he wanted Broly as a partner. Broly has since found peace on Beerus’ planet with Cheelai and Lemo, but that peace is fragile in the best narrative way.
If Frieza captured Cheelai and Lemo and threatened them, Broly would not need a villain monologue or a complex plan. He would go feral. And unlike Goku, Broly’s rage is not a character flaw to overcome—it is a nuclear reactor with abandonment issues.

The Rematch Must Not Be Cheap

The fandom has waited over three years, and the expectations are ridiculous—in the best way. Fans want Vegeta to finally get a definitive Frieza victory, Broly to enter like a walking natural disaster, and Gohan and Piccolo to matter beyond “we are also here.”
The Reddit thread captures the mood perfectly: people are not even debating whether Black Frieza is strong anymore. They are debating how Dragon Ball will eventually take him down without making it feel like another Goku-shaped cheat code.
And that is the real danger. Black Frieza’s debut was so overwhelming that the payoff has to be bigger than a new hair color, a borrowed god power-up, or a last-second team attack. Frieza earned this level of menace. The heroes need to earn the win.

The Arc That Could Change Everything

A proper Black Frieza Saga could give Dragon Ball something it has rarely had: consequences. Frieza is not a mindless monster or a misunderstood god—he is a patient, arrogant tyrant who looked at his losses, trained for a decade, and came back stronger than the people who beat him.
If the story follows through with Broly’s emotional stakes, real losses, and a team-based victory that does not erase Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, or Broly, then CBR’s claim stops sounding like hype. It starts sounding like the best possible version of modern Dragon Ball.
Until then, Black Frieza remains the ultimate unpaid debt: the villain who won, left, and has been letting the entire fandom sit with the receipt for three years.
