The Next League of Legends Series After Arcane: Everything We Know About Noxus and Mel Medarda

Arcane is finished.

For two seasons, Netflix and Riot Games turned the complicated world of League of Legends into one of television's most ambitious animated stories, following Vi and Jinx through the conflict between Piltover and Zaun. But Riot never intended for those two sisters to be the end of the story. When Arcane concluded, co-creator Christian Linke described it as the beginning of a larger storytelling journey across Runeterra, the wider world of League of Legends.

Now the attention has shifted toward what comes next.

Riot has not officially revealed the title, cast, plot, or release date of its next Netflix League of Legends series. However, there are considerably more clues than there were immediately after Arcane ended, and one region keeps appearing at the center of them: Noxus.

Even more interestingly, several major Noxian champions have already appeared in new cinematic material produced by Riot and Fortiche.

And then there is Mel Medarda.

Arcane Was Only the Beginning

The first thing to understand is that the next series is not Arcane Season 3.

Netflix officially describes the second season as the final season of Arcane, while Christian Linke explained that the creators had a specific ending in mind for Vi and Jinx's story. At the same time, he made clear that Arcane was the first of several stories Riot wanted to tell within Runeterra.

That distinction changes everything.

The next show does not need to bring back Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, or Viktor as its central characters. Riot has an entire fictional world to work with, containing dozens of regions and hundreds of characters with their own histories, conflicts, and relationships.

And Riot has already identified some of the regions it wants to explore.

In an interview following Arcane Season 2, Linke confirmed that future League adaptations would explore Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia. He also stressed that these projects were still in early development and that it was too soon to reveal exactly how the regions would be used.

That means Noxus is not simply a fan theory.

It is one of the regions Riot has publicly identified for future storytelling.

Why Noxus Is the Obvious Next Destination

Noxus is almost the perfect place to take the League universe after Piltover and Zaun.

Where Arcane was largely concerned with class, technology, family, and the consequences of political division, Noxus opens the door to stories about military expansion, power, espionage, ambition, and empire.

It is also a region with an enormous collection of recognizable champions.

Darius represents the military might of Noxus. Katarina brings assassination and political intrigue. LeBlanc and the Black Rose introduce manipulation, magic, and secret societies. Vladimir connects to the darker magical side of Noxian history.

And beyond Noxus itself are territories that the empire has attempted to influence or conquer.

That gives the writers a much larger canvas.

A Noxus-focused story could move from imperial politics to battlefield warfare, secret magical organizations, and conflicts with neighboring regions without ever needing to return to Piltover.

Mel Medarda Could Be the Bridge

Of all the characters connected to the Noxus storyline, Mel Medarda is arguably the most important connection to Arcane.

Mel was already deeply connected to Noxus through her mother, Ambessa Medarda. In Arcane, Ambessa arrived in Piltover carrying the political and military weight of Noxus with her, while her relationship with Mel became one of the show's more complicated family conflicts. Netflix's official character material identifies Ambessa as a Noxian warrior and Mel's mother.

By the end of Arcane, Mel's story had moved beyond Piltover.

That matters because it gives Riot a natural way to transition from the world audiences already know into a completely different part of Runeterra.

Mel doesn't require another season of Arcane to remain relevant.

Her story can continue somewhere else.

And Riot has already put her there.

Welcome to Noxus Was a Major Clue

In January 2025, Riot released a cinematic called "Welcome to Noxus," created in collaboration with Fortiche, the French animation studio behind Arcane. The official League website lists the cinematic as part of Riot's Noxus-focused media, while Fortiche's own portfolio identifies Mel, Darius, Katarina, LeBlanc, and Vladimir among its starring characters.

This is where things become particularly interesting.

The cinematic is technically a League of Legends game cinematic rather than an official trailer for the next Netflix series. Riot has not said that every character shown in it will appear in the upcoming Netflix production.

But the choice of characters is difficult to ignore.

Mel is shown returning to the lands connected to her ancestry. Darius is involved in a military campaign connected to the Freljord. Katarina is involved with the Black Rose. LeBlanc and Vladimir represent the secretive magical side of Noxus. Fortiche's official description specifically highlights Mel's return, Darius's campaign, and Katarina's infiltration of the Black Rose.

It looks less like a random collection of champions and more like a concentrated introduction to the Noxian side of Runeterra.

That still does not make it confirmation of the Netflix cast.

But as a piece of evidence, it is significant.

The Characters We Have Already Seen

The biggest reason fans are watching these cinematics so closely is that they provide actual faces for the future of League animation.

Mel Medarda

Mel is the most obvious link between Arcane and whatever comes next.

She is a former Piltover councilor, the daughter of Ambessa and someone whose understanding of politics and magic changed dramatically during Arcane. Her connection to Noxus gives the new story a character who is already familiar to Netflix viewers without requiring the entire cast of Arcane to return.

Her presence also raises a bigger question: what happens when Mel finally confronts the world her mother came from?

That is potentially a much more interesting continuation than simply bringing Vi and Jinx back for another adventure.

Darius

Darius is one of Noxus's most recognizable warriors and represents the empire's military identity.

The Welcome to Noxus cinematic places him in a campaign connected to the Freljord, where he clashes with Trundle. Fortiche's official description specifically mentions Darius leading a military campaign in the Freljord.

That opens up another potential direction for future animation.

A Noxus story doesn't have to remain inside Noxian territory.

The empire's ambitions naturally create conflicts with other regions, meaning characters such as Darius can take the story into the Freljord and beyond.

Katarina

Katarina brings an entirely different kind of story.

She is an assassin from one of Noxus's most politically powerful families, and her appearance in the cinematic places her near the Black Rose, one of the most mysterious organizations in Noxian lore.

That immediately connects her to the magical conspiracy side of the setting.

If Riot wants the next show to retain some of the political intrigue that made Arcane compelling, Katarina is an obvious character to watch.

LeBlanc

LeBlanc may be even more important.

She is one of the central figures associated with the Black Rose, the secretive organization whose influence extends deep into Noxian politics.

Her appearance in Welcome to Noxus is especially interesting because the Black Rose is already connected to Arcane through Mel and Ambessa.

That creates a potential narrative bridge between the two series without requiring Arcane to continue.

LeBlanc could represent the part of Noxus that operates behind the throne rather than from the battlefield.

Vladimir

Vladimir is another major Black Rose-associated character who appears in the Noxus cinematic.

His presence expands the potential story beyond conventional political drama into darker forms of magic and ancient power.

That could give a future series a very different atmosphere from Arcane.

Piltover gave us Hextech.

Noxus could give us something much older and considerably more dangerous.

Elise

Elise is another character connected to the Black Rose who appears in the cinematic material.

Her presence is important because she connects Noxus to the Shadow Isles and the supernatural side of Runeterra.

That is another reminder that a Noxus series does not necessarily have to be geographically confined to Noxus.

The region's politics can serve as the starting point for a much wider story.

Trundle

Then there is Trundle.

The Freljordian troll appears in the cinematic opposite Darius, providing a glimpse of what Noxian expansion can look like when it collides with another region.

Trundle isn't Noxian, which is precisely why his appearance matters.

A story about Noxus can naturally become a story about everyone threatened by Noxian expansion.

And Then There Is Swain

If there is one character whose absence from the Noxus cinematic is almost as interesting as everyone who appears, it is Swain.

Arcane Season 2 already planted a major Noxian clue in its final moments through the mysterious six-eyed raven. Fans immediately connected the imagery to Swain, the Grand General of Noxus and one of the most important figures in the region's modern history. Contemporary coverage also identified the raven as a major Swain tease.

But Swain does not appear in the Welcome to Noxus cinematic.

That does not mean he will not appear in the eventual animated series.

It simply means there is currently no official confirmation that he will be part of the next Netflix project.

If Riot is building toward a story involving Noxian politics, however, Swain is an obvious figure to keep an eye on.

He sits at the intersection of military power, political strategy, and supernatural knowledge, making him potentially central to a story that wants to explain how modern Noxus actually works.

The Black Rose Could Be the Real Story

The most interesting thread connecting these characters may not be Noxus's armies.

It could be the Black Rose.

The organization operates in the shadows of Noxian politics and has connections to some of the most powerful magical figures in the region. LeBlanc, Vladimir, Elise, and Katarina all bring different relationships to this world of secrets and manipulation.

More importantly, Arcane has already introduced audiences to the idea that the Black Rose operates beyond ordinary political structures.

That means a future series would not have to spend an entire season explaining why Noxus is dangerous.

It could begin with a conspiracy already in motion.

And Mel could find herself standing directly in its path.

Noxus Isn't the Only Region Coming

It would also be a mistake to assume that Riot's future animated universe is exclusively about Noxus.

Christian Linke has specifically identified Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia as regions being explored for future League adaptations. Riot's entertainment structure also now includes a dedicated animation studio led by Linke, with Riot saying the goal is to explore worlds beyond Arcane.

That makes the long-term strategy easier to understand.

Riot isn't necessarily trying to produce Arcane 2 under another name.

It is building an animated universe.

Noxus may be the next major doorway into that universe, but Ionia and Demacia provide entirely different possibilities.

Ionia could explore spirituality, warfare, and the tension between tradition and invasion. Demacia could tackle the conflict between a kingdom built around order and a world where magic cannot simply be suppressed.

Each region has enough material to support a completely different kind of show.

Will It Be on Netflix?

The connection to Netflix is strong because Arcane was produced as a Riot and Fortiche project and released through Netflix, and Riot has continued developing animation through Christian Linke's studio. Netflix itself has described Arcane as the beginning of a larger Runeterra storytelling journey.

However, there is an important distinction between future League animation and a formally announced Netflix series.

As of September 2026, Riot has not publicly unveiled a complete official package containing the next show's title, release date, episode count, cast, and synopsis.

So the safest description is that Riot is developing future animated League of Legends projects, with Noxus among the confirmed regions being explored.

The exact Netflix rollout remains unannounced.

When Will the New League of Legends Series Release?

There is no official release date.

And this is one area where fans should ignore anyone confidently giving a specific premiere date without an official Riot, Netflix, or production announcement.

Linke previously indicated that the next League adaptations were still in early development and that the wait would be significant.

That makes sense when you consider what Riot is attempting.

Arcane took years to develop and became known for its unusually detailed animation, cinematography, and production design. Riot has also explicitly created a dedicated animation studio under Linke, suggesting that the company is treating animation as a major part of its long-term entertainment strategy rather than something to rush out because Arcane was successful.

So while the next series is something fans can reasonably expect, "soon" needs to be used carefully.

The project is being built.

It is not yet ready for a confirmed premiere date.

Will Vi and Jinx Return?

There is no confirmed answer.

More importantly, they don't need to.

Arcane concluded their story, and Netflix has explicitly described Season 2 as the final season.

The strength of Runeterra is that Riot can leave one story behind and move somewhere else.

Mel is already an ideal example.

She can carry forward elements from Arcane while opening the door to Noxus, the Black Rose, and characters who have never had major roles in a League animated series.

That gives Riot a clean way to reward existing viewers without making new viewers complete a homework assignment before starting the next show.

What Makes the Next Series So Interesting

The biggest challenge will be avoiding the temptation to simply recreate Arcane.

Arcane worked because it had its own identity.

It wasn't a two-hour League of Legends advertisement stretched into nine episodes. It was a character-driven story about family, class, political power, technological progress, and trauma that happened to exist inside the League universe.

The next series needs the same independence.

A Noxus story should feel like Noxus.

It should be harsher, more political, and more concerned with power. It should make room for characters such as LeBlanc, Darius, Katarina, and Swain without turning them into a checklist of famous champions.

And most importantly, it needs to make people care about Runeterra even if they have never played League of Legends.

That is the real standard Arcane created.

The Next League Series Could Be Much Bigger Than Arcane

The funny thing about Arcane is that its greatest achievement may not have been telling Vi and Jinx's story.

It may have been proving that League of Legends has enough world-building to support television in the first place.

Before Arcane, someone unfamiliar with League could reasonably look at the game's enormous roster and complicated lore and wonder how any of it could become a coherent television story.

Then Riot and Fortiche did it.

Now the question has changed.

It isn't whether League of Legends can work as an animated series.

It is how much of Runeterra Riot is willing to show us.

Noxus is already giving us a strong collection of clues: Mel returning to her ancestral homeland, Darius leading military campaigns, Katarina moving through the Black Rose, LeBlanc and Vladimir representing the region's darker magic, Elise connecting the story to the supernatural, and Trundle showing that Noxian ambitions extend beyond its own borders. Fortiche itself confirms several of these characters in its official description of Welcome to Noxus.

None of that constitutes a complete announcement for the next Netflix series.

But taken together, it paints a pretty clear picture of the world Riot is preparing to explore.

Arcane ended with Piltover and Zaun.

The next great League story may begin with Noxus.

And if Mel really is the bridge between those two worlds, her journey could be the piece that makes the entire transition work.
