The 2027 Movies You’ll Want on Your Radar Before Everyone Starts Talking About Them

From Spider-Man and Star Wars to Zelda, Batman and some very strange new worlds, 2027 is quietly becoming one of the most interesting years for movies.

There is a strange thing happening with 2027.

We are still living through 2026, there are plenty of huge movies left to arrive, and yet the next year is already starting to look absurd. Studios have quietly stacked 2027 with superhero returns, ambitious adaptations, animated sequels, fantasy epics, horror, science fiction and a few projects that could become much bigger conversations than their marketing suggests.

Some of these movies are obvious. You probably already know about Avengers: Secret Wars and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Others are easier to overlook because they do not have quite the same level of franchise noise surrounding them.

That is exactly why it is worth looking ahead now.

Here are the 2027 movies I would already have on my radar.

1. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

June 18, 2027

Miles Morales still has one massive problem to solve: ending a story that has become much bigger than anyone expected.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled to arrive on June 18, 2027, following the enormous cliffhanger left by Across the Spider-Verse.

The interesting part is not simply whether the movie will look incredible. At this point, that almost feels guaranteed. The real question is whether it can bring together the multiverse, Spider-Society, Miles' personal journey and everything the previous films have built without making the conclusion feel like homework.

That is a difficult balancing act, and it is exactly why this one belongs on the radar.

2. Star Wars: Starfighter

May 28, 2027

Star Wars has spent years exploring its past, but Star Wars: Starfighter represents something more interesting: another chance to push the franchise forward.

The film is scheduled for May 28, 2027, with Ryan Gosling leading a new story set within the Star Wars universe.

That distinction matters.

The easiest way for a giant franchise to become predictable is to keep digging through the same characters and timelines forever. A genuinely new Star Wars story has the opportunity to make the galaxy feel strange again.

Whether it actually does that is another question, but the possibility alone makes this one worth watching.

3. The Legend of Zelda

Hollywood has spent years trying to figure out how to turn video games into movies without stripping away what made the games special.

The Legend of Zelda will have to deal with exactly that problem.

The live-action adaptation is currently scheduled for May 7, 2027.

The interesting thing about Zelda is that the series has never really depended on one fixed version of its world. Different games have reinvented Hyrule, Link and Zelda while keeping certain ideas intact.

That gives a movie adaptation more creative room than many game-to-film projects get.

If Nintendo and the filmmakers understand that, rather than simply trying to recreate a game on screen, this could become one of the most fascinating video-game adaptations to watch.

4. Avengers: Secret Wars

Of course this one is here.

Whatever happens with Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars is positioned as the massive follow-up and the concluding chapter of Marvel's Multiverse Saga. The current theatrical release date is December 17, 2027.

But the reason to watch it is bigger than the possibility of seeing a ridiculous number of Marvel characters sharing a screen.

Marvel has spent years making the multiverse increasingly important to its storytelling. Secret Wars is where all of that has to mean something.

After years of variants, alternate realities, returning characters and increasingly complicated continuity, the movie has an opportunity to answer a much simpler question:

What is the MCU actually going to become after all of this?

That makes it one of the most consequential movies on the 2027 calendar.

5. Man of Tomorrow

July 9, 2027

Superman has returned to the center of DC's cinematic universe, and the next chapter is already on the way.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for July 9, 2027, with David Corenswet returning as Superman and Nicholas Hoult returning as Lex Luthor.

What makes this interesting is not simply that it is another Superman movie.

It is a chance to see whether the new DC universe can build momentum around its characters instead of constantly rebuilding itself. The film also brings Superman and Luthor into a story involving Brainiac, giving the sequel a very different scale from the first movie.

If the new DCU wants to establish its own identity, this is one of the movies that will help determine what that identity looks like.

6. The Batman: Part II

There is something refreshing about the fact that Matt Reeves' Batman universe does not need to behave like the rest of the superhero genre.

The A Quiet Place series has built an entire horror concept around one incredibly simple rule: noise can get you killed.

That simplicity is part of what makes the franchise interesting.

The challenge now is keeping that original tension alive after the audience already understands the rules.

The best horror sequels do not simply add more monsters. They find new ways to make familiar rules frightening again.

That is what this one needs to do.

8. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Middle-earth is coming back to theaters, but this time the focus is narrowing in on one of its strangest characters.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is currently scheduled for December 17, 2027.

The interesting part is that Gollum is not exactly the kind of character you would expect to carry a traditional franchise adventure.

That could be a strength.

After the enormous scale of the original trilogy, a story built around obsession, pursuit and one deeply broken character could give Middle-earth a different kind of atmosphere.

It also raises the larger question of whether audiences actually want more stories from established fantasy worlds—or whether they only want them when there is a genuinely different reason to return.

9. Shrek 5

Yes, Shrek.

And honestly, pretending this is not interesting would be missing the point.

Shrek 5 is currently scheduled for June 30, 2027.

The original Shrek movies became much more than animated comedies. They became part of internet culture, meme culture and an entire generation's idea of what animated movies could sound like.

The difficult part is returning decades later without simply making nostalgia the entire joke.

If Shrek 5 understands why people still care about the characters rather than only reminding audiences that they remember them, it could be far more interesting than another legacy sequel has any right to be.

10. Frozen III

November 24, 2027

Disney's Frozen franchise is another example of something that can be easy to underestimate because it is so commercially successful.

But Frozen III arrives in a very different entertainment landscape from the first two movies.

Audiences have become more skeptical of endless sequels, while animation has become increasingly ambitious and visually experimental. That gives the next Frozen movie an opportunity to prove that the franchise still has somewhere interesting to go.

The movie is currently scheduled for November 24, 2027.

And considering how deeply the original films embedded themselves into pop culture, whatever Disney does next will probably become a much bigger conversation than the release date alone suggests.

2027 Is Not Just About Superheroes

The easiest thing to do with a list like this is to turn it into another superhero countdown.

That would actually miss what makes the current 2027 slate interesting.

Yes, Marvel and DC are bringing some enormous movies. But sitting alongside them are Zelda, Starfighter, Beyond the Spider-Verse, A Quiet Place Part III, The Hunt for Gollum and a new Shrek.

That is a much stranger mix.

And strange is good.

The most interesting movie years are rarely the ones where every release belongs to the same genre. They are the years when completely different ideas collide at the same time and audiences suddenly have too many things to argue about.

The Movies Worth Watching Might Not Be the Biggest Ones

There is also a reason I would not treat this as a definitive ranking.

Release schedules change. Trailers change expectations. Movies get delayed. Some projects that look enormous two years beforehand eventually become disappointments, while something barely anyone is talking about can suddenly become the movie everybody wants to discuss.

That is part of the fun.

Right now, 2027 looks like a year worth watching because there are so many different possibilities sitting on the calendar. Some movies are trying to finish enormous stories. Others are attempting to restart old franchises. A few are trying to introduce audiences to worlds they already know in completely different ways.

The question is not which movie will be the biggest.

It is which ones will give us something worth talking about.

And 2027 already has plenty of candidates.
