LEGO ONE PIECE Gives Usopp the One Job He Was Born to Do

Netflix’s two-part special retells its live-action story through the Straw Hats’ least reliable narrator. That choice could make a familiar voyage feel new.

Usopp might be the worst person to ask for a strictly accurate account of the Straw Hats’ adventures. He may also be the best person to make that account entertaining.

That is the idea behind LEGO ONE PIECE, a two-part animated special scheduled to arrive on Netflix on September 29, 2026. Rather than send the crew on an unrelated adventure, it revisits events from the first two seasons of Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE. Usopp tells the story to Tony Tony Chopper, taking them from the East Blue toward the Grand Line. Netflix Tudum

A recap sounds modest until the storyteller is Usopp. His tendency to exaggerate gives the special a reason to reshape scenes instead of merely recreating them in plastic bricks. A daunting opponent can become even larger in his telling. An embarrassing moment can acquire a more flattering explanation. The comedy comes from recognising both the event and the person who wants everyone to remember it differently.

That framing also gives Chopper a useful role. As Usopp’s listener, he offers a way into the crew’s history for someone who may not know every stop on its journey. Netflix says the special is intended to welcome new viewers while giving existing fans another perspective on familiar events. Whether it succeeds will depend on how clearly it tells the story without flattening what made those moments matter in the live-action series. Netflix Tudum

The special has continuity in its voices, even as its look changes. The live-action Straw Hat cast returns: Iñaki Godoy voices Luffy, Emily Rudd voices Nami, Mackenyu voices Zoro, Jacob Romero voices Usopp, Taz Skylar voices Sanji, and Mikaela Hoover voices Chopper. Tom Hyndman is its showrunner, writer, and executive producer; Chelsea Ker directed both episodes. The project was made in partnership with the LEGO Group, Shueisha, and animation studio Atomic Cartoons, with ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda among its executive producers. Netflix Tudum

Those credits make one distinction worth keeping clear. This is a retelling of Netflix’s live-action first two seasons, presented as a LEGO special. It is not the separate new anime adaptation, THE ONE PIECE, which Netflix has scheduled for 2027. Calling every new version of Luffy’s beginning the same thing would leave readers more confused than informed. Netflix Tudum

The best reason to watch LEGO ONE PIECE is therefore its point of view. Fans already know the broad route of this voyage. What they have not seen is Usopp trying to own the telling of it, with Chopper there to hear every improbable detail. If the special commits to that joke while keeping the crew’s affection for one another intact, a familiar story could earn its return trip.
